We are a Term Time school offering two sessions a day, morning and afternoon. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which covers areas in learning of ‘Communication’ , ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Development’, and ‘Physical Development’ (Prime areas) and ‘Literacy’, ‘Understanding the World’, ‘Mathematical Development’ and ‘Expressive Arts and Design’ (Specific areas.) By encouraging exploration, investigation and problem solving we develop our children’s Characteristics of Learning. These are fundamental for future education.
Children start with us part time in the Afternoon School from the age of 2 ½ years progressing to our Morning School where they attend for 5 mornings a week with the option of full days.
In line with settings in the UK and Jersey we use ‘Development Matters’ in the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ (EYFS) as a support to our teaching.
Tapestry is used as an online learning journal. We use this medium to record and celebrate our children’s progress, through our written observations, photographs and videos, and contributions from parents. We support recent research concentrating on the value of children’s ‘Wellbeing’ and ‘Involvement’ as crucial for all learning. Visiting qualified Music and Yoga teachers endorse this in their classes.
The manager of The Acorn is Mrs Mandy King, a qualified teacher with a wealth of experience of working in the early years. The owner, Mrs Vicky Scarborough, also a qualified teacher, has opened and run two Acorn Nursery Schools in London before re locating to Jersey. An additional strength is our highly qualified staff who have an absolute passion for giving each child the very best possible start as they take those early steps into the world. All staff have a minimum of a level 3 qualification.
